Step inside TWG Tea in Leicester Square — a golden sanctuary where London’s afternoon tea tradition meets quiet theatrical luxury.

This Singapore-born tea house @twgtea.uk – a gilded jewel on the corner of Leicester Square – offers one of the most transportive afternoon tea experiences in central London. Step through the glass doors and the bustle outside fades to a hush; inside, gold-rimmed teapots gleam beneath soft light, and the air is scented with jasmine and caramel. The festive decorations this year are unapologetically lavish – think  ribbons, glittering baubles and perfectly symmetrical garlands – making it the kind of place that feels perpetually caught between a film set and a dream.

Choose from more than 800 blends, though I’d start with the signature 1837 Black Tea, rich with berries and spice, or the Silver Moon, a delicate green laced with vanilla. Pair it with a tiered stand of pastries that verge on architectural – the chocolate mousse dome with gold leaf, for instance, or the miniature lemon tart crowned with a single petal – and a still-warm scone with thick clotted cream. Service is polished but never fussy; cups are refilled before you realise they’re empty, and every pour is executed with theatrical precision.

For a festive pause between shopping or theatre, it’s hard to imagine anywhere more refined – a serene, amber-lit refuge where time stretches just long enough for one more pot.

We’re featuring cinematic and refined spots like this in Where Londoners Eat — our 2026 coffee-table book celebrating 100 of the city’s most remarkable restaurants and cafés, shared across London’s finest hotels and salons.
